Leonard Ray Alkire, 69, of West Lebanon Route 1, died Sunday (Aug. 15, 1971) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. He had been a patient there since July 24 and had been seriously ill for three weeks. Born near West Lebanon, June 4, 1902, he was the son of Wilbur and Lillian Steele Alkire. He was married May 25, 1935, in Covington to Grace Cross. A resident of Warren County all his life, he was a farmer and for the past four years had operated a service station in West Lebanon. He had driven school buses for Liberty Township and Williamsport for several years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Warren County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Eugene of Covington and Larry of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Cook of Blythdale, Mo., Mrs. Reatha Walls of Veedersburg and Mrs. Charlotte Epperson of Williamsport Route 3; a brother, Ira Alkire of Ventura, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Reatha Jenny of Anderson, Mrs. Veda Jacks of Lafayette and Mrs. Vera Stinnett of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard. Services Wednesday at the DeSutter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henry Koch officiating. Burial in West Lebanon Cemetery.
